Reliable parametrisation methods are required within the scope of probabilistic analysis to predict the influence of geometric variations. But in case of turbine blades, the external surface is potentially disturbed by cooling holes in such a way that methods for aerofoil parametrisation could fail.
This paper shows an automated pre-process for turbine blade parametrisation. The presented algorithm locates cooling holes and generates a smooth surface to ensure the functionality of parametrisation methods.
The cooling holes are located based on the approximated curvature of the polygon mesh. Afterwards, the identified areas of high local curvature are removed. Finally, a combined hole filling and smoothing algorithm is applied.
