Previously unavailable solutions of the elastic behavior of a long cylinder subjected to balanced radial loads are obtained. The circumferentially distributed radial load solution is extended to obtain the solution in which the load is also distributed, not necessarily uniformly, in the axial direction. All displacement and stress results are written in a single expression with tabulated coefficients. Comparison to several limiting cases is made to check the validity of results. The graphical results presented herein provide an engineer with more adequate means of designing long cylinders subjected to local loads.
